Trip End

Well, I'm getting things ready still, but January 5 is getting closer and closer. Between Christmas and work and preparing for this trip, I'm pretty busy. My great aunt is also passing away. It's a somber note to start the trip on, but she's definitely an inspiration to me. She's been all over the world and is so excited for me to start my own "adventure". She gave my sister and myself perfume bottles she got from Egypt this week. I'm afraid to use it in my mess of a room, I'd hate for it to break. It's definitely not going with me to the Dominican. Anyway, I'll be thinking of her a lot while I'm there.
So, I've just made the final payment today, and recieved my housing information yesterday. I'm living with another student named Katelyn who is from Michigan in the Pelegrín de Ardavín household. They only live 5 minutes from the university. There are four people in the family, including 2 children - one who's 7 years older than me and another who is 10 years younger. There's also a dog! I'm pretty excited about the dog. I haven't lived with a dog since Indy died in March. I'm excited to meet them all. I've been facebooking with a few of the other girls in the program and they all seem pretty nice so far.
I still have a lot more to get done though! I have to buy my host family a gift, as well as start studying my Spanish cada día!! I've been slacking on that this week, but I'll turn it around. Starting tomorrow. I am going to exercise and practice Spanish every day. Too bad I don't hang out with any Spanish speakers in Louisville. The biggest thing I've been worried about is an international cell phone. After spending a ridiculous amount of time on the internet, I discovered Orange dominicana, a phone company that's a branch of AT&T. It will be much cheaper to just buy a phone from them when I get there with prepaid mintues. Calls to the US count as local calls! It's only like 13 cents a minute - that's in Dominican pesos - so that's like a fraction of a penny a minute. Sweet.
I just wanted to get started on this blog and see how it worked. I might try to write again before I leave! Hasta luego...
