Yesterday I went on a walk to find both the Museo do Indio and Museo do Amazonas; I got distracted though by the Rio Negro palace, an old collonial building so didn´t make it to the Museo do Amazonas. The museo do indio has a small but interesting collection of tribal goods such as ceremonial devices, hammocks, wooden and woven crafts and some basic descriptions. After touring the beautiful palace that belonged to some German Baron around the time of the rubber plantation industry boom, I walked back to centro and had a very cheap self service lunch at Filosophicus, a vegetarian restaurant. After having for pudding a very sweet ripe mango back at the hostel I took the bus to the shopping mall district, where I went to plaza shopping and Amazonas shopping. It´s funny how wherever you go in the world, shopping malls are pretty much the same, aside from the language.
After making dinner I met an English guy who had spent some time in the jungle and wanted to go back to Rio early to save a little money. I hadn´t even considered this... There is a lot to do in Manaus but most of it requires money, the free/cheap things I was taking slowly in order to not exaust the place. Taking time for a little contemplation, I decided to follow suit and pay a penalty fee for changing my flight from the 13th to the 11th, tomorrow morning. I have a lot of friends in Rio and could never feel as if I know the city well enough. There are several excursions I´d like to do there aswell. We went out for a drink in the theatre square last night. I also met Hudson who asked to meet me at 5pm today, he´s going to take me to Ponta Negra with some friends.
I´ve very much enjoyed my time in Amazonia and am happy to be leaving tomorrow knowing I have a lot more to do here when I´m richer. Today I´m going to the Bosque do Ciencias, a section of the rainforest that has been preserved within the city where I can see manatees, lots of other flora and forna of the amazon rainforest. I´ll buy some more souvenirs to, beside going to Ponta Negra.
