Well I thought Vicki and Ian lived just outside Sydney! I had underestimated the distances here so it was a six hour train journey to Wauchope but that isnt real time as the trains here go at snail pace and wait halfway thro the journey to let the train going south pass. There's only a single line! Good job they only have 2 trains a day or so and no wonder public transport is high on the election manifestos.
I have been made to feel so welcome and its been like being at home-the luxury of two pillows, tea in bed and had I wanted throughout the night, undisturbed nights and the most delicious food and oodles of wine! So much for the weight loss NZ treking ensured but with wine in the Far East being either not worth drinking or off budget I shall redress the calorie intake I'm sure.
It has been great to catch up on the e-mails and talk on Skype, swim in the pool and watch the Test match which as I type is a great score-England 405 runs ahead! The headlines in the paper mourning the demise of Aussie cricket make excellent reading.
Christmas was a really lovely quiet day which included a swim ,champagne and delicious roast turkey. Sadly the sun wasnt around but it was warm.
Not done too much sightseeing but have been walking along the beaches with Ian-we were up at 6am to do so and been into the town shopping. I am going to visit the koala hospital but that is this pm and then its packing the back pack hopefully without too much effort given the winter woolies are being despatched to UK.
The koala hospital was all I had hoped it would be with koalas in various states of recovery from dog attacks, car accidents and wet bottom-dont ask-and I was able to see them moving and being given food supplements.Matt, Matt's namesake had been released into the wild but the one with scoliosis which ,as his condition is genetic they want to prevent escaping, keeps trying to get in with the females. Noone is sure how given the perspex fences to prevent him climbing but love clearly knows no obstacles.Amazing to find Veronica a fellow room mate from NZ standing next to me and so she came back for tea and cake at the motel before I returned her to her hostel. We may meet again as she is travelling same route! Its a small world! So onward to Sydney, New Year and meeting up with Helen and Matt.
