Today consisted of meeting all of the teachers, receiving a "togetherness" poem, and sitting. Six hours of sitting. But what can I say really, this is Tico time. I asked, "so when will we receive our books?" "Tomorrow, of course." "OK, when do we start our classrooms?" "Monday." And when do we find out our schedule, students names, curriculum etc." Next week," they said. "Be patient," they said. And I wanted to say then why am I here at 6:45am until early afternoon, when nothing happens until maņana in this country. But then I remembered, I have to be calm and relaxed and live on Tica time. So I did for six hours and sat there.
I did go out on the yacht on Sunday with my boss, his family and a fellow teacher. It was very nice and relaxing. Their captain and first mate took care of us all day from coffee in the morning to escorts to the beach of the Isla de Tortuga. Tortuga is a beautiful white sand beach about an hour away by boat. There are bilingual toucans in the trees. And rasta bands playing at the picnic tables.
This weekend I am venturing to Playa Hermosa. A great beach about two hours down the coast. A new teacher at the school, Lorea, from Oregon travels there every weekend. So I plan on accompanying her and she also happens to be a surfer so hopefully she will teach me some techniques in the waves. Loving life still, and can not wait for school to start so I can start teaching. Al fin!!
