Ao Nang and Railay Beach

Ao Nang had a loooong stretch of sand with greenish water flanked by limestone cliffs, and the water was dotted with islands in the distance. All very picturesque but it was a very touristy little town with expensive Italian restaurants lining the beach. We only had to turn a corner to find cheap Thai food though, it's amazing what a litte distance from the waterfront will do to the prices! We swam at sunset near a big bunch of Thai boys who screamed in excitement every time there was the slightest swell of a wave, imagine what they'd think of an Aussie surf beach! We also met a ladyboy in the water with pretty nailpolish and long hair.
The next day we thought we'd check out Railay beach, a short boat ride away. It was a bit more isolated than Ao Nang (no roads, kind of like being on an island, but it wasn't an island) with a really nice beach on the western side and a muddier swampy one on the eastern side. We stayed at YaYa's which was a pretty cool place, and had the yummiest Tom Yum Goong (spicy prawn soup).
One day we went for a walk and came across Pra Nang beach - white sand, bright green water, shrines in caves and a huge limestone cliff looming over the water. The water itself was heavenly to swim in, except I got stung by an unidentified creature of the deep which luckily wasn't too painful.
After indulging in a few too many prawns, movies, Beer Changs and ocean frolics we were ready to hit the road once more.
