So our first day or traveling didn't go as smoothly as it could have! Stephen was driving and we were on the highway near Tuncurry. Speed limit was 110kph and as we had the satnav on we knew exactly how fast we were going. Suddenly Stephen is saying there's a police man behind me...he's started flashing his lights! So we pull over at the side of the road and we were debating why we've been pulled over because there was no way we had been speeding. After waiting about 5 minutes the police man finally gets out of his car and comes over. First thing he says is that this encounter is being reordered which in turn made Ste start looking round the car for a hidden camera like an idiot!!! Any way i digress...The police man said, 'You any idea how fast you were going back there?' Ste replied with, '114kph tops nothing faster than that.'
'Ahhhhhhhh 114 hey....you were going at 135kph!'
Ste said, 'That's impossible
'Ahhhhhhhhh impossible hey.... didn't you wonder why you were passing people so quickly?'
With this we were speechless apart from Ste repeating that's impossible.
The police man took Ste's license and dissapeared again for another 5 minutes. In the end he came back and said i'm just letting you off with a caution and that was it!
So basically what we have learnt from this story is that NSW cops are crook because there was no way in hell we were speeding and if we were really doing 135 we wouldn't have just got a caution we would have been fined or whatever they do to you!!
So that was the first incident the second came when we were trying to find this free camp which was down a 13km dirt road. We were following the satnav and it told us to turn left into the forest. There was a rough track there so we went for it. We soon realised we had gone wrong when the scene started to resemble Wolfe Creek as the track disappeared and we started seeing old rusty burnt out cars in the woods!!! We did a million point turn in the middle of the woods and quickly went back to the dirt road! When we finally found the camp it was great. Only 3 other tents there (not surprising since I'm sure we're not the only ones who couldn't find it) and it was right next to a lovely river.
Next day it was red hot so we decided to head down the road to Elizabeth Beach (Oh yeah!)
It was really busy when we got there but it was the nicest beach. White sands and turquoise sea with good waves for body boarding. Only problem was there was no shade a we left the beach looking like 2 cooked lobsters!
So after 2 nights camping in the bush we made our way down to Sydney for New Year :)
