Made it to Normanton which is as far on the Savannah Way as we're going. Staying at Normanton Tourist park in the centre of town opposite the 'Purple Pub’. Great campsite with camp kitchen, a huge 25m swimming pool and a thermal spa which is about 38 degrees. Normanton looks like predominantly an aboriginal town and it’s really small. At night it was a bit loud. Got woken up at about 2am from all this shouting and it was some aboriginal people who had had a few too many! On the way here we saw some crazy things on the road. There was a dead kangaroo on the side of the road with a huge eagle or falcon standing on top of it! It was black and gold and had a huge beak and furry feet like it was wearing leg warmers. We slowed right down when we drove past it and it never moved. It just stared right at us. Stood on the kangaroo the eagle/falcon came up to the wing mirror on our car, it was that big. Further down the road a great big goanna crossed the road right in front of our car. We could see something black on the edge road in the distance and at first thought it was the heat reflecting off the road but when we got closer we saw it. That didn’t hurry across the road either; it just dawdled across at its own pace! Right before we got to Normanton we saw 2 wild cats out in the middle of nowhere. David Attenborough eat your heart out!
