Before we left Los Antiguos we made a quick visit to a couple of the viewpoints around town for views over the lake and of the mountains in Chile. We head back on the road to Ruta 40 and from Perito Merino headed south to Estancia Telken. It's a highlight of driving arounf here in the Lonely Planet and was also highly recommended in a couple of other guide books. It’s supposed to open in October. It wasn’t. Bugger. We headed back to Perito Merino to check in the tourist office if any of the estanicas around here were open as we needed somewhere to stay to visit Cueva de las Manos the next day. We were back on the road again and heading towards Estanica Cueva de las Manos. This turned out to be a bit more of a hotel than farmhouse and was very expensive so we headed on again to see if we could camp at Estancia Casa de Piedras.  We had wanted to go here the next day anyway as there is apparently a good full day walk into the canyon to see the Cueva de las Manos (cave of the hands) that we planned on doing.  It was closed. Back to Estanica Cueva de las Manos we went. It didn’t end up being that bad as we were the only guests. We got to cook our own lunch in their Asado house and had a really nice dinner. They also gave good info on how to get to the Caves in the morning, albiet by car and not walking, and at least the room was warm. Not the farmhouse experience we were looking for but not too bad.
