Where I stayed
The Wild Rover

Our next stop in Bolivia was La Paz. The bus there turned out to involve an unexpected river crossing. We all had to jump off, our bus went on a barge and we had to pay for a boat to bring us over. We've definitely chilled out as we just payed up and jumped on with all the locals while all the other tourists had a big row about paying an extra 20p they weren't ready for! Calm down!

We decided to stay in the Wild Rover hostel as it meant we'd be able to watch the Ireland rugby and football matches. We were a bit worried when we saw that Friday night was also fancy dress night with a doctors and nurses theme! Who brings fancy dress with them on holiday?! Thankfully when the night came around not a single person was in fancy dress so we didn’t feel left out. The hostel itself turned out to be great. The bar is really good and makes it very easy to chat to people. I watched the football with a fella from Fermanagh (Liz was there but I think her eyes may have drifted to the tv at most once). That night the place was packed for the rugby. The atmosphere was great.  We ended up at a table with a group of people on a GAP tour. An Irish/Aussie couple, a Scottish lad and another Irish guy. They were all grand at the start but as the Aussie girl got drunker she got more annoying (going as far as climbing on the bar on her own to sing Ireland’s call) as did her Irish husband who turned out to be one of those people who shouts and curses at the screen too much and mostly shows he doesn’t really know anything about rugby. Was all good craic though. Unfortunately the result wasn’t as hoped for and the night really ended well when a young Peruvian lad who had been annoying everyone all night got knocked through a couple of tables when he wound someone up a bit too much. Police called and at this stage it was 5:30 and England were being hammered by France so we just went to bed.

The other highlight of the Wild Rover was the food. Bangers and mash, pork chops, big morning frys and none of it too expensive at all. We had met a Scottish guy in Colombia who had said he’d hardly left this particular hostel and we were starting to see why. We did make it out once or twice ourselves for a look around the city and visit a couple of museums including a pretty good musical one nearby. They even have a try our area for a bunch of instruments. We didn’t really get to see as much of La Paz as we would have liked but as we’re cutting all of Bolivia a lot shorter than we’d planned hopefully we’ll be back.
