We went for a change of pace in Blenheim and kicked back for Marlborough region wine tasting. After the torrential rain the night before we woke up to gorgeous sunny blue skies, and it was actually warmer than it's been in a while. It was a really nice day and after a false start when the first winery we went to was charging for wine tasting (heaven forbid) we went to Villa Maria and spent a lovely hour tasting wine and chatting with the lady in the cellar door.  We went to four more wineries, some better than others, and tasted loads of really tasty wines.  The lady in Framingham was one of those particularly entertaining characters, especially her telling the story of when she was chosen to speak to the Queen at a garden party in Buckingham Palace.  Apparently every year there are a certain number of seats available to Kiwis to attend the garden party and you just apply on line…did anyone know that?! Anyway she applied, got 2 tickets, went and was then picked out of the crowd to stand forward and actually talk to the Queen when she arrived! (Obviously with my new found patriotism I find this very exciting!).  She was able to find common ground with Kevin too because her daughter lives in Mayo, so he didn’t get too bored, although I think he found her continued attempts at the Irish accent quite offensive.

After the wine tasting came the most exciting part of the day……chocolate tasting.  Needless to say we tried everything that we could and even stocked up on a bit because it was too delicious not to!
