After that thrilling interlude we hit the road to head west towards the glaciers. I had been in touch with an old friend, Ellie, the day before on FB who works in Arrowtown so we detoured via there on the way through to say hi
. We then took another detour to Puzzling World in Wanaka. Kevin was very upset when we went through on the way to Queenstown that we hadn’t stopped there so we did it this time. It’s basically a place full of optical allusions and a big maze. Some of the illusions were really cool, including a room that looks normal but actually one side is considerably lower than the other. You can go in one door which is very high and then walk to the other end of the room with the ceiling getting lower and lower until you can’t stand up anymore, and then out of a tiny door at that end. It was like something out of Alice in Wonderland. Obviously we had fun messing around and chasing each other taking it in turns to be the giant and the midget! The maze was very frustrating and unfortunately it got too late so we had to leave before we had completed the task. Quitters!
We ended up in Cromwell a bit randomly really. We had planned to drive the Southern Scenic Route through Invercargill and on to Dunedin over a day or two but the weather was so crap it didn't seem worth it. We did an about turn and drove on till dark and ended up in Cromwell. In the morning just before we were about to head off Kevin called me outside and said he had a surprise for me. I wasn’t expecting to see him run up to a massive bouncy castle type thing and start bouncing around like a lunatic. But he did! It’s called a Jumping Pillow and was probably more fun than any of the things that we did in Queenstown!!! After a few goes we actually managed to jump quite high although I found it quite difficult because I was giggling like a silly eejit!
