Thanks to our great planning we spent our second day in the van driving back into Christchurch so that we could pick up some food! That done we headed in the direction of Mt Cook. The beauty of NZ for driving compared to Australia is that everything is so close together so you don't need to spend hours each day on the road.  Because of that we decided that we wouldn’t feel rushed and would stop wherever we wanted.  So we drove the scenic route and stopped a number of times just to look at the scenery (surprisingly), which is spectacular.  Another lesson we learnt from Australia was not to push on until just before dark, and to actually chill out and see the places we are staying.  So we pulled off the road at a place called Pudding Hill – partly because we liked the name, partly because we were ready for a break and partly because Kevin wanted to check out the skydiving place.  We had a nice camping area all to ourselves and chilled out all afternoon, played pool, had some beer….it’s a tough life!

As Kevin couldn’t do a skydive because it was Easter Sunday, we went for an early morning 2 hour 'tramp’ up Pudding Hill for some lovely views of the area.  It was easy enough going but great training for the couple of Great Walks we hope to fit into our timetable.  We also had fun scaring some sheep, not that it’s really a challenge!

Then back in the car and we headed off to Mt Cook, NZ’s highest mountain. We made it to the government campsite before dark and got to use our cooker in our tiny van under the awning for the first time….very exciting! As it was Easter we even got to have pudding....a whole easter egg between us.  This is the life...
