As you cab probably see from the map of Australia, Brisbane isn't exactly on the natural route from the Great Ocean Road to Sydney.  However after finishing the Great Ocean Road and arriving in Geelong, off to Brisbane we flew.  Let me explain.....I lived in Brisbane for 18 months from 2004-2005 and decided at the last minute that i wanted to visit the city, which Kevin was thrilled about - not that he had any issue with going to Brisbane but I had spent the weeks leading up Australia and then the first week through the red centre making it perfectly clear that I was fine not going! Having realised that I would be sad if we didn't go we booked last minute tickets to fly from Melbourne, parked the campervan in the airport carpark for a couple of nights and headed north to Queensland.

We were really lucky because a friend of mine from when i was in Australia - Heike - moved back to Brisbane from Germany in 2008 and was able to put us up for our 2 nights there, and as a strange coincidence lives in the same apartment block i used to so Kevin got the full Liz-in-Brisbane experience! This was significant because as he discovered I lived in a somewhat unstudent like place in Southbank overlooking the city, and he got to see the views!

We spent out 1 day in Brisbane basically going to all my favourite spots, whilst fitting in some good old sightseeing for Kevin.  We went to West End for breakfast, my old university in Nathan, and went sightseeing in the city centre.  We went to the Belgium Beer Bar, one of my favourite drinking places, and wandered through the Botanical Gardens.  We even made it to my regular coffee place in Southbank, Denim, although its gone from a quirky little coffee shop to a more modern Starbucks type place which was a little disappointing.  Cakes were still lovely though!

We spent the evening with Heike and her boyfriend Sascha overlooking the city night lights, and every now and then boring the lads with stories about other ex-Griffith Uni friends and memories.

I was a little sad when we left the next day and by the time we had picked up the van it was almost like I had dreamt it!!
