Alongside the amazing food one of the best things about travelling around India has been the transport network. Ironically our worst and most unreliable bus journey was the one on a tourist only bus (first time we've seen tourists on any public transport). It took 3 hours longer than we were initially told to reach our destination, which wasn't great considering there was less leg room and padding on the seats compared to those on the buses offered for Indian tourists (I'm sure it won't be our longest delay over the next year or so but it was surprising for India)! Once we finally made it to Sonauli leaving the country and entering Nepal was very unceremonious. Everyone crowding around a table at Indian Immigration, no one really knowing who was being dealt with! The Nepali side was slightly more organised in that it involved a queue, but again very quick - wham bam and we were in with a visa. The Nepali guy was very helpful though and saved us $30 each on our visas with some useful advice. A hotel had been arranged for everyone as part of the ticket so we all head off to Hotel Paradise. It was pretty poor even by our standards but I think some of the other tourists hadn't seen anything like it before!
