What a night - the Mission Winery Concert was fantastic (sorry no pictures until we get home!); the weather was overcast in the morning but by 2pm the sun was out & it was very warm. We arrived via the hotel transport in time to buy our wine & see part of the Wellington Ukelele band and they were good - lots of recent popular hits and great fun. Carol King was excellent; I hope we look that good at 71! She seemed as though she was really enjoying herself and she received a standing ovation......and that was just the support act.
The stage was transformed and twilight quickly became night as Barrie Gibb created a storm - overall, it was quite an emotional concert - Barrie spoke about his childhood & his 3 brothers (all now passed away); his son and niece ( Maurice's daughter) both played and there was a very spooky song where they projected Robin and his voice, but it was a great show, wonderful songs and a superb atmosphere. Ivan and I both had flashing medallions and chatted to all the locals around us, who had come many miles to the concert.
We travelled to Wellington today and Ivan selected a town for us to have a leg stretch and change drivers but I continued driving for a bit longer and low and behold, the ideal spot to have a drink and change over, turned out to be ........the TUI brewery!! We sat in the garden and listened to a live duo, whilst enjoying a small beer. Our second stop was at a wildlife reserve were we saw live Kiwi as well as several other endangered birds and had a lovely "bush walk" through the trees.
The final part of the drive to Wellington was through some dramatic scenery and hills; we found our apartment easily, which has a nice balcony (but not a great view) and have cooked dinner for the first time in 4 weeks!! Not many places on our next leg have " full" cooking facilities.
Exploring Wellington tomorrow...
