Where I stayed
Salvadore's Airbnb

Flag of Mexico  , Baja California,
Sunday, January 20, 2013

Came across this accommodation on Airbnb $33/night.  I think the pictures say it all.  Salvadore and Yolanda are the owners and the most gracious people.  My phablet does not work in Mexico so no internet or phone for one month. Sal took us into town and helped us get a cheap mobile phone to use in Mexico and then took us on a tour which included showing Gary where he could hire surfboard and wetsuit, however water far too cold except the mad locals who seem to be used to the temp. The days though are so warm and sunny, nights still cold.  The sunsets from the balcony are magic. Today we saw whales and dolphins swim by.
21/01/2013: the car has been making some strange noises, so Salvadore took Gary up to his mechanic in this tiny village. Starter motor gone and water pump leaking, so they left the car to be fixed. We went for a long walk on the beach and Salvadore rang us to say he was driving the mechanic into Tijuana 45 mins away as they needed to get parts for the starter motor. They then had to go to another town for more parts. Salvadore got back late afternoon with all receipts and quotes and said the car would be another 2 hours. When we went to pick up the car they said Salvadore had already paid for the work, unbelievable!!!!! He was with Yolanda next door having dinner so we went in to pay him $70.00 !!!, could not believe our luck to find this couple. Last night we took them to dinner to say thankyou, a favourite restaurant of theirs called Splash which is literally built on the water.
Salvadore has a self contained unit here which you can rent for 6 months for $600/month, very tempting.
22/01/2013: Today we went to Ensenada and wandered around the city checking out all the tourist shops which are many as the cruise liners come down here from San Diego full of Americans. The locals loved the fact that we were Aussie, and when we explained that we could not buy as we cannot carry they were just happy to try and talk about Australia, they are fascinated by our accent.
27/01/2013: Past 3 days raining so just hanging out with Salvador and Yolanda and watching endless movies, Gary happy as a pig in mud. We feel like part of the family. Today Yolanda's son, his wife and her adopted son and his wife came for lunch. We were invited as well, great time, home cooked Mexican food - so yummy. they spoke very little English but we had so much fun translating. Gary had them in hysterics, trying to speak Spanish using his Spanish book but they said he sounded Japanese.
We are heading south tomorrow but sad to be leaving these beautiful people, we will miss them.
