Couldn't pass through Roswell, curiosity got the better of us. The crash was in the 1940's but the town still using the alien encounter as their draw card. All the street lamps have alien heads. We visited the Roswell museum and have to admit it was very interesting and we both came away believing we have been visited by little people from another planet and the US Government is covering up one big secret. The town was actually very convenient for us. The car needed a service, we had driven about 17,000 klms so had oil change, a good wash and then found out we needed 2 new tyres on the back. Got everything done in a few hours and ready for the road again. Following day we went to Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. As with everything in the USA the caverns were enormous, was like walking through the middle of a mountain covering 73 square miles. An elevator descends the length of the Empire State Building in under a minute. We took the 2 mile walk into the cavern, spectacular. Last 2 days we have been in San Antonio in Texas, visited the Alamo and learnt all about the Tex/Mexican war against Mexico to gain independence from the dictatorship of of the Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie lost their lives at The Alamo. The town of San Antonio is absolutely beautiful with a river walk that resembles Venice. We spent hours just walking, finishing the day with a Margaritas by the riverfront in a picture postcard cafe. We also had home made corn chips with salsa, wonderful. Today we spent the morning kayaking for 2 hours and walking along the Lady Bird Lake Austin. We sat on some seats on a bridge for a bit of a rest. You will see the photos of Gary looking like he is getting over the night before and I know no one will believe me but that is apple juice in the bottle not bourbon. We must have looked like the homeless. I was asleep on another seat and woke to a perfect photo moment. We ended the day at the Austin History museum. They also had an IMAX theatre so watched 007 Skyfall. Great on the giant screen.
