We've been back in the real world for 7 weeks now, still in a bit of a daze and half expecting to get a flight out of the UK and on to the next place, but we're now back to work and it's started to hit home that we're no longer travelling. One thing for sure is that we are now totally addicted to travelling and already looking forward to our next trip. Whilst we were away we missed our home comforts on several occasions and I particularly got a tad homesick form time to time. Now that we are back and we have our comfy beds, hot water 24-7, quality cheese, Walkers crisps, etc, we're starting to wonder why the hell we missed these stupid things. (obviously family and friends don't count) Next time we go travelling there will be no homesickness whatsoever! No dreaming of jacket potatoes with Cheddar cheese and Heinz baked beans, no, we shall be enjoying our Pad Thai and Cambodian frogs legs 10 x more.
Anyway we thought we'd present our best bits, so here they are:
Most beautiful country:
1) New Zealand (A bit of everything you could possibly want in nature)
2) Laos
3) Peru
Best country for food:
1) India (far better than the curries you get here and brilliant for veggies)
2) Mexico (different to how we'd do it but fresh and tasty)
3) Thailand (Red curry with pineapple, mmmmmmmmmmmmm)
Most culturally interesting country:
1) India
2) Peru
3) Easter Island
Best city:
1) Buenos Aires
2) Downtown Hong Kong
3) Cusco in Peru and Luang Prabang in Loas (not exactly a sprawling metropolis but the cutest and most chilled out)
Best trek:
1) Machu picchu
2) North Thailand
3) Mountain near Mcloed Ganj
Best ruins:
1) Angkor Wat
2) Machu Picchu
3) Mayan ruins in Mexico
Best beach:
1) Haad yao, Koh Pha-Ngan, Thailand
2) Muri beach, Cook Islands
3) Occheuteal Beach, Cambodia
Best wow:
1) Helicoptor over the Franz Joseph glacier, NZ
2) Journey down to Milford Sound, NZ
3) Condors, Colca Canyon Peru.
Biggest disappointments:
1) San Fran and Las Vegas
2) Thailand (in general, although had some great times)
3) Puerto Maldonado Jungle in Peru
and an extra one:
4) Not being able to explore Bolivia
Worst cities:
1) Chennai (Madras)
2) Juliaca, Peru (only passed through, thank god!)
3) Las Vegas
Grossest things:
1) Women weeing and pooing on the bathroom floors in India
2) The smell of Chennai after it rained
3) Rich's tongue after the shaman experience
Scariest moment:
1) Jumping off a moving train
2) My never-ending nosebleed
3) Realising we'd ran out of money and had to come home
