First day and I soon realised that what I had been told about everything taking a long time in Ethiopia was true as the "5 mins wait" for the hotel shuttle bus turned into 35 mins. The journey from the airport to the hotel took me through streets teeming with people and where beggars and kids came up to tap on the bus windows seeking money whenever we were stuck in traffic. Such difference between the very luxurious hotel I stayed in and the tin shacks that most local people lived in. Only the main road appeared to be surfaced. Lots of huge holes in roads with no protection. People herding sheep and goats along the main roads in the centre of town!
