I am all packed (I hope), good bye to Hitchin, travelled to Gatwick by train with plenty of time to spare (I had to wait to book my bags in) and will hopefully to see them again in Rio. Fingers crossed.
It was difficult to pack for a trip to involve sailing in all weathers, camping safari and possibly Antarctica! I needed 2 big bags in the end 27kgs I think.
A lovely young lady saw me struggling with my bags walking down from my house to the station offered to help me (she was walking in the other direction) and carried one of my bags down to station
Thanks to all those who gave me Christmas gifts for travelling I think I got every thing in, and none confiscated at airport, it will be great to have a bit of luxury when travelling. I did leave the rum & lime behind I think the ship with have some on board and I don't think they will let us get scurvy!
To day I fly to Porto in Portugal then early tomorrow to Rio in Brazil to join The Lord Nelson in the evening.
I am due to meet 2 fellow travellers on my way, Joyce and Steve. Apparently wearing JST clothes so should be easy to spot. I've got on my Sail the World tee shirt!
I was text by Steve, who I so far had only spoken to via email and forum, to meet hIm in the bar in Gatwick, also I was expecting to meet Joyce who I was due to share a hotel room with. So I was slightly surprised to find 2 men in JST clothes as the bar. I enquired who was Joyce? To be told Brian was also a watch leader on our same flight. It took us until we were on the plane and asking the flight crew before I identified Joyce (hidden JST wear).
