Just had 3 days in Langkawi and really didn't enjoy it!

First impressions were good. Arrived by ferry and the island looks great as you dock.

Took a taxi to the main beach, Pantai Cenang, and started to check out the accommodation. Our first choice was a bit expensive so we started wandering down the main street checking out other places. A lot of places were booked up. We saw this fairly dodgy room and in a bit of a panic, we decided to take it. After we'd paid for the night, we then decided that we all hated it and negotiated our way out of it - well we only lost 20RM of our money.

Then checked into a better hotel but having spent 2 and a half weeks overlooking the sea in Pangkor, we now had a room with no balcony. Nice and clean though.

The beach looked great, until we actually went into the sea. Then we were stung but we weren't quite sure what by. We found out a couple of days later that there are teeny, tiny jellyfish that sting you. None of us really went into the sea after that.

So, we'd paid for 3 days at the hotel; we didn't like the sea and didn't reckon too much of the resort. With quite a lot of Ringgits to use up (apparently it's illegal to change Malaysian currency outside of Malaysia - although we subsequently did a dodgy deal with a bloke at the port in Thailand), we decided to treat ourselves for the 3 days. The first night, we ate in a swanky German restaurant and got a bit widdly pie - I had quite a few Pina Coladas.

The next day, we hired mopeds and drove around the island. We did see a fantastic waterfall, and were able to sit in the water at the top of the falls, but that was somewhat marred by Chris crashing his moped on the way up and grazing his knee and elbow to buggery, as well as burning his other calf on the exhaust pipe!

The last day we decided to pay to use the swimming pool of a posh hotel, and then ended up staying there for over 2 hours without coughing up the dosh. It would have been 60RM per person (bearing in mind, we were stuffing our faces at T.J.'s for about 15RM per person).

Got out of dodge this morning - on the earliest ferry possible.
