After leaving Left Salt Lake City we had a pretty long day travelling on the bus! Two things to mention from the journey; firstly we passed the first ever KFC!! And secondly we played a TV theme song quiz on the bus. American programmes such as Cheers, Frasier, Friends and House featured. I enjoyed the game immensely although I wasn't as good as I would've liked!!
Before heading to the hotel in Kanab we visited Bryce Canyon National Park. We had approximately three hours here to soak up the sights and have a wander along some of the trails. We followed a path along the rim of the canyon to a place called Sunrise Point and the views were beautiful. The rock was a very bright orange-red and you could see for miles. The sky was bright blue and we were amazed at how vivid the colours were! The rock formations were great to see and being very high up we were able to get some great photos! That evening we pushed on to our Four Seasons motel at Kanab! It was pretty basic but we were in the middle of nowhere so it was awesome considering. Our evening meal took place across the road at Kanab's Hollywood museum - apparently lots of Westerns were filmed in this small town!! The food was proper cowboy food - we all wore hats, and we were served beef, potato and bread rolls on a metal plate. Afterwards we all piled in to Jess and Kat's room for a Contiki party! Some played Beer Pong, some watched Jersey shore on TV.. us girls sat and chatted! It was great. A nice chilled out night.
The next morning we headed to the Grand Canyon. It was pretty awesome! It wasn't exactly how I expected as we were on the North rim and there are more trees on this side so it is fairly green. Apparently the views of red rock are on the South rim. It was pretty incredible mind.. we walked along the path to an observation point and myself and Kate sat on a bench in the sun looking out at the vast gap and rock formations. It made me even more excited for our helicopter flight - will be awesome to see it from above and land inside!! In the evening Kris cooked us a BBQ at a local park and some of the guys dressed in Halloween costumes. We had a pretty good evening, and me and Kate had a laugh. On the walk back to the Motel I noticed just how many stars were in the sky; being in such a remote area there were tons of them and they were so bright – I couldn’t stop staring at them!
The next morning we left Kanab and drove to Zion national park, on route to Las Vegas!!
