Tips for Travellers:

1. Find Captain Nemo who owns a really old felucca called Neketari for the most honest captain in Egypt and an experience you will never forget;

2. I recommed the Iberhotel for good value, service and location. Have dinner in the hotel restaurant. on the Nile overlooking Valley of the Kings on the west bank. Especially good at night when the Valley of the Kings is lit up!

3. Walk everywhere, no matter how hot, Luxor is amazing.

Avenue of the Sphinxes is amazing. I cannot belieev that it is not fenced off or protected by security. Man made dirt bridges connecting the roads on either side drive over durst buried Sphinxes. I really feel Egyptians have no idea of the value of the the precious ruins.
Anyways.... still being excavated, it was amazing to see all the Sphinxes lined up leading to the temple, a breathtaking site today, could only imagine what it would have been like in the day... breathless I am sure.
Make sure you go to Karnak, home of the gods and seat of the Pharoah. All Pharoah's have left their mark adding addition to the temple. Allow a few hours as their is much to see.
On the walk back to the hotel I stopped to take a picture of the sunset when an old man approached me offering a fellucca ride. I was quick to turn him away, however unlike most he accepted my rejection and promptly turned away. I respected him for this and went to find him after my photo to negotiate a 20 minute ride for a mere 40 Egyptian pounds.
The 60 old man was called Captain Nemo, he owned what had to be the oldest felucca on the Nile. I couldn't be happier! We borded the felucca named after Ramsis II's wife, Nefertari. After a short srtuggle to get the felucca out of the dock we were on our way. Money could not pay for the experience I was about to have.
The sun was falling from the sky into the backdrop of the Nile. It was Ramadan and prayers could be heard through the loudspeakers on the banks. The non existent wind when we left the dock picked up and filled the sail and blew the Luxor summer into our faces. It was perfect. At that moment Ramadan ended, Captain Nemo gestured for my bottle as he had not been able to drink or eat all day. I handed him the bottle and watched him quench his thirst.
It ireally was a special moment, I feel Captian Nemo felt it was too. The negotiated 20 minutes had long past and we continued to sail on the Nile. Amazing!
As we pulled closer to the dock Captain Nemo offered me control of his felucca making me captain on the Nile!
I gave Captain Nemo 100 pounds, a cheap experience I will never forget.
Had dinner at the Chinese restaurant in the hotel overlooking the Nile and the west bank where tomorrows journey to Valley of the Kings was awaiting.
