So after loads of tears, a 10 hour coach trip, which we nearly missed and also abandoned two people on the side of the road.... yes, after all of that we finally arrived in Airlie Beach.

It was heartbreaking saying goodbye to Cairns, Global Palace and to everyone at the Woolshed, these people have been my support group for the last 16 weeks, we have all become so close that we call each other 'family'.  I will miss them all so much but am thankful that I got the chance to meet them all and will keep in contact in hope that we will either meet again down the coast or back in England when I finally decide to come home!!!

Anyway, we arrived in Airlie Beach, grabbed our million bags and belongings and walked to out hostel called 'Magnums'.  We checked into dorm 84 and started the long walk right to the other end of the site to find our room and meet our new room mates.  I can only explain it to be like Centre Parcs, all the dorms are little wooden huts sleeping 8 people.  As we walked to the door we heard the people next door chanting "oh no, your not in that room are you?!" Stef and I looked at each other questioning what the hell are we gunna find on the other side of the door!!!  When we walked in, we found 3 men and a lady... Gaz, Hunter, Yannis and Valarie.  Apparently this dorm was the party dorm... needless to say they were VERY right!!!!  We sat on the beds and chatted to the lads for a while, they told us we were joining them for the night in a game of ring of fire (which Stef is actually banned from) and for dinner.  We weren't going to argue, being the newbie in town is rather daunting!!!  Valarie is a French lady with not so good English skills and started to rant on about how we shouldn't go on sailing trips as they are "rubbish"  !!!!  Anyway, after a much needed shower the boys opened the goon (box of wine for all you people back at home!!!) and started cooking us a slap up meal consisting of pasta and sauce.. oh yes, welcome to the wonderful world of pack packers!!!!!

After dinner, ring of fire started....  oh dear.  Certain cards mean certain dares, for instance if you pick up a queen, you become question master, therefore if I ask you "what is the time" you have to turn to someone else straight away and ask them another question... if you hesitate or answer you have to drinks loads of goon... and so on (too many rules to type).  Anyway, 12 letres of goon later.... we went out.  We walked into Mama Africa's, used the bathroom facilities then headed for the pizza place, had something to eat and then went back to bed!!!!  Wayyyyyyyy too drunk for a night out... and it was before midnight!!!  oooopsss!!!!

So that was my first night in Airlie Beach.

Thursday 30 August 2007
Stef and I woke up in bitsssssss after a heavy night, somehow sorted all our stuff out for the boat and headed over to ABC travel to book in.  We checked out of the hostel and put our stuff into storage.
Once check in, we went back to bed for a couple of hours, as we didn't have to board the ship until 3pm.

We then headed down to the boat... surprise surprise we were the last to check in!!  Nothing new there then! hahaha!!!  Once on the boat, we had an orientation and then had dinner.  None of you would believe this but I, Keli Barnes had fish for dinner.... yes, FISH!!!   I ATE FISH!!! hahahaha!  It was horrible but I was starving and breakfast was a long way away!!!!  We then settled into our rather large cabin (no 4) and then had a few drinks with the people on the boat.  In all honesty, we were shattered and weren't feeling very talkative so we snuck off early and went to bed... losers!!!  It was worth it though as we were up at 7am!!!  That hurt our feelings!

Friday 31st August 2007

7am - Up for breakfast, quick shower and then off to Whitehaven Beach... I don't need to explain, just look at the pictures!  It was amazing.  I have never in my life walked on sand so soft.  It was like walking on snow.  It was pure white and if you rubbed your jewellery in it, it made is glisten.. something to go with Quartz in the sand.  My ring mum got me for my 21st in now shinier than ever!!!  We stayed on the island until 10.30am and then boarded the boat for lunch and to head to the next destination... Hook Island.

Hook Island was a small bay where we left our stuff and went snorkeling in the reef... as you can see from the pics, I had to wear a stupid stinger suit... don't I just look gorgeous!! haha!!!  Anyway, Stef and I swam about for a bit and saw some amazing coral and fish, all brightly coloured.  Absolutely breathtaking.

We then had dinner on the boat, another shower and then hit the goon for the night.  We ended up making friends with 3 lads and a lady, Michael, Rich, Cormack & Fiona.  We all played cards together and sat around talking... until someone shouted "shark" so we all legged it onto the top deck to see the shark... sure enough a small reef shark was circulating the boat trying to catch all the fish that were enjoying the leftovers from dinner... trust me there were a few, dinner was rubbish!!!!  We sat watching the shark for a little while and then the stuuuupid wind blew my sunglasses off the side and into the water... needless to say I was NOT going to jump in and save them with the shark swimming around, so instead I cussed for a little while and then went to bed with the hump!!

Saturday 1st September 2007
Up at 6.30am... OUCH!!!  Breakfast, a quick shower and then off to another island for some snorkeling... the weather was overcast and Stef and I both agreed we didn't want to snorkel so we decided to relax for the morning on the boat, listen to some tunes and bathe in the sun.  Good choice, everyone that went came back freezing and had to walk home in wet clothes, where as we were warm and dry!!!!  Well sort of, it rained on the way back so we got a little wet!!!

We then headed back to Magnums in Airlie Beach to book in again for our last night.  Fiona, Michael, Rich and Cormack joined us and booked into our room (4G) with us.

We then had a much needed McDonalds and headed to the internet to update you all!!!!

Anyway, I leave Airlie Beach tomorrow at 5.25pm and will be traveling for 9 hours until I arrive at Agnes Waters (1770) at 2.20am!!  Ouch.  I am there for 2 days, I will have no signal on my phone and the going rate for internet use if $7... therefore I won't be on line either!!!!  I will update you all again as soon as I can.

Love you all and Miss you all loads

All my love
