The next day we took a ferry over to Torquay to start driving the Great Ocean road. The scenery is really fantastic and we stopped at loads of lookouts along the way to get some pics. We weren't quite sure how far we were gonna be able to drive o the first day so we hadn't booked any accommodation, just thought we'd ring a few places when we got there - BIG MISTAKE! After passing at least 50 B&B's with No Vacancy hanging outside we started to panic and rang every campsite, hostel & hotel within 100 miles with no luck. About 9 o'clock we were driving through a small town and decided to have a drink in the local pub (think Gawleys Gate) before trying to find a place to sleep in the car. Ryan luckily got talkin to a man at the bar who's wife sometimes takes in lodgers and drove us up their house for the night.
So with a goodnights sleep we headed of to our next stop a little place on the coast called Robe, and yes we booked our accommodation first thing in the morning! That day we stopped off at the Twelve Apostles, Bay of Islands and Larry the giant lobster! That evening we must've drove for at least 2hrs without seeing another car, which is a bit freaky considering its a main tourist highway. We finished off in Adelaide and took an afternoon flight back to Perth to meet up with all the relatives and say goodbye to Australia :-(
This country is so vast we drove 1300 Km's in 3 days and it only looks like a tiny bit on the map!
