Ok the novelty of rain and wind has definitely worn off now. Stepping out of Picadilly station and seeing Manchester under a veil of grey drizzle made me feel like the last 4 years haven't happened at all...no matter where you go, however many tibetan cowboys, chinese wannabe popstars and venezuelan draft dodgers you meet along the way, you can always be guaranteed to come back to Manchester and see tracksuits and rain. I guess it's comforting in a way. To be fair, after scratching below the surface I did notice a lot of changes in Manchester. Everything seems to be that little bit more polished and new, the Arndale Centre for example is completely revamped, it doesn't smell of chips at all and actually has toilets with hand dryers that work. plus there's even a mini London Eye outside!
Another reunion was accordingly celebrated down Canal Street, although being used to Spanish going out times backfired slightly, perhaps leaving the hostel at 12.30 pm could have been better thought ou! Despite it being tranny night, everywhere seemed about to be about to close apart from one classy backstreet joint (whose name I can thankfully no longer remember so perfect excuse not to go back!).  I hadn't seen Ian and Emily for about 2 years though, so with the help of some delicious vodka we had a wonderful time twirling and reminiscing. Life lesson- even awful 90s R&B can be bearable with the right people and magical cocktails!
