From Seward we had planned to move west across the Kenai peninsula to visit the towns of Sterling, Soldotna, Kenai, and Homer before returning to Anchorage. As we were getting gas in Seward, Dianne had a phone call from Sue Sippey, whom we had met while visiting friends in Florida. Sue and her husband Bob, along with their dog and cat, had been traveling in Alaska for a couple months already. They had visited Alaska last summer and enjoyed it so much they had returned for a longer stay. We had previously exchanged emails in an attempt to meet somewhere, and it finally was about to happen, since they were in the Kenai Peninsula not far from our next planned stop. Although we had met many people during our travels, it would be nice to see a familiar face and compare notes.

We met Bob and Sue at Watson Lake, a wonderful little (3 campsites) campground in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, west of Sterling. The lake was gorgeous, and with the exception of the mosquitoes it was certainly not crowded. We had a good time discussing places we each had visited, and they were able to give us many suggestions of places yet to see. Lexi had a terrific time playing with their black lab Wags and swimming in the lake. We even had a beautiful sunset while there, if you can call the sun going low over the lake at 11:00 pm a sunset. We parted ways the next morning, planning to meet up again in a few weeks on "Old-timers Day" at the county fair in Fairbanks. (Half price admission!)
