I have to admit, I am a bit jealous of everyone at home celebrating midsummer today. It feels like I haven't been home on this special day for years (which is not really true, this is just the second one in a row I'm not there). Maybe next year, but then again, I'll probably be in England. Oh well.
Here in Kitgum no one has any idea that today is a special day, maybe I should tell them. Ask them to dance around a pole with me ;) They might think I'm really weird if I do that though... But just like any other day here in Kitgum we are today heading out into the field. Probably in like an hour or so. The people are working in the fields in the morning so there's no point in going out earlier. On Tuesday I managed to get ill while we were out so we 'only' got data for three boreholes before we returned back. And then on Wednesday I stayed at the hotel and rested because it is no fun to be ill out in the field. You are literally in the middle of nowhere, and it's hot. Very hot. So yesterday we got back to it and visited six boreholes. We'll see how many we get to today. It's interesting, and some of them are very tricky to get to. For instance, on Tuesday, we got lost trying to find one. And it's not like when you get lost at home, because here you get lost in high, high grass because there aren't really any roads. But we managed to find it eventually, and had a really good discussion with the community members.
But yeah, I am developing a new idea of what is a good and what is bad road ;) If the car will fit on the path without driving over high grass, then it's a fairly good road. How they know where to drive is a complete mystery to me.
On Sunday we are heading to Kampala. It will be nice to go back to civilisation for a short while. Only three days, but still. I had hoped we were leaving tomorrow because I have no idea what to do there tomorrow, but the other's who are going down to the same meeting are going Sunday so Sunday it is. I'm sure I'll come up with something. Walk around town maybe, chill and read my book. I'm sure the day will pass :) And then there's a three day meeting with LWF before I return here.
So that's the situation right now :)
Glad midsommar to everyone at home! Hope it won't be too rainy and cold. I will continue working on my farmer's tan ;)

BAMSEkram
