We paid a little extra for one of the most amazing campsites in San Remo. It looked out over the Mediterranean Sea, which around here was the most amazing blue and crystal clear. We watched boats and the sunrise and sunset everyday, plus we had a full moon that came up out of the Ocean a beautiful bright pink colour.
We took off to Monaco for day trip on the train. It was beautiful. Mum and I took off to the Casino while Spud and the kids went for a swim. Unfortunately we did not win millions so we are still on a bloody budget.
After a few days here we headed back around to Viareggio in preparation for going up to the house in the Tuscan hills only 15 minutes from there.
We met our concierge Sandy at the bottom of the hill then started to climb for 15mins; it was a very hairy experience in the camper. We couldn't get the camper up the drive way so had to park it down on the street (1km from house) and get ferried up in the people mover. We drive through the gates and WOW!!! This massive Tuscan stone villa overlooking Viareggio, the Sea and you could even see the leaning tower of Pisa from here. It was spectacular. We had champagne, nibbles and a tour of the houses (we had a 2 bedroom guest house too); then it was into the cozzies and the afternoon spent drinking beer and swimming in the pool. With a big Murphy Sunday roast to finish off our first day.
The temperature has steadily climbed since leaving Venice and our daily average now is between 30 and 35 degrees.
Monday we were off to Pisa to pick up Monika (from Czech) then we did the leaning tower. It was so much smaller than we had all imagined but we got the photos and the customary relics (Cam could not by pass the miniature towers).
Tuesday we set off to Lucca, a lovely walled town 40km from the house, and then back into Viareggio and the beach for the afternoon.
Wednesday morning we had a cooking lesson on making pizza bases and pizza's from scratch which we ate (13 pizza's I think we made and ate), then veged out by the pool waiting for Chris, Sarah and Millie to arrive. At 6pm we then had another cooking lesson. We made crostini with toppings, battered zucchini flowers stuffed with mozzarella and anchovies and fresh pasta with a bosciola sauce. It was amazing and we all are now inspired to make our own pasta's from scratch. The night then turned into a bit of a party with copious bottles of red wine and Heineken being drunk.
Thursday we took off to the Cinque Terre (5 Villages). We had been told by others not to forget your togs, so we packed them up and headed from the first village Riomaggoire to the second (Manarola) by foot. We then caught a ferry to the last village (Monorosso) and spent the day swimming in the clear blue water. It was so good the girls went and brought snorkels and spent the afternoon scaring the marine life. A reasonably early night was had by all after our big day.
On Friday Grant and I dropped Monika back to Pisa then we all spent the day talking, drinking and swimming.
Jordan's birthday on Saturday so we were greeted this morning by a massive and very sweet breakfast of strawberry pancakes, blueberry muffins, cream filled croissants and the likes. We then took her into town to pick a new bikini for her birthday, we only lasted an hour in town as the temperature hit 37 degrees. We had a thunderstorm for an hour in the afternoon (it always manages to rain at some stage on Jordan's birthday) but when the sun came back out it was hotter again! After a roast and birthday cake another early night was had by all, the weather is just zapping us, then up bright and early on Sunday to hit the road again...
