Scotty recommended stopping in Glenwood Springs for the night, taking the girls to the pools and skiing at a club field, Sunlight Mountain, the next day... After the shock of paying $42 to get into the pools, we ended up spending a couple of hours there. One of the pools is over 100 meters long and not as hot as the other pools. It is really eerie at night when steam is coming off them, it's snowing and this pool is huge. It made for a great game of tag and a good work out with spud and I probably swimming over 2km.
We skied at Sunlight, just out of Glenwood Springs in amazing conditions. The weather was beautiful and it was only -6deg. Then we headed for Aspen where we will stay for 10 days.
Scotty has organized his girlfriend Erica's apartment for us to stay in which is located right on Highlands Mountain. The girls are enjoying getting up in the morning putting on their gear and walking down the stairs to the ski field. They now know their way around the mountain thanks to intense training from Scotty and are just charging.
We have also arrived to the start of the Winter X games much to the kid's joy. The Winter X games are mad. There are 30,000 people walking around in freezing cold temperatures in various states of dress and undress. The competitions are awesome! We watched the Big Air Finals, the women's superpipe final and the snowmobile X. WOW. Aspen is set up so well to cater for these big events, with free buses running every 5 minutes and designated queues for where you are going. People are so orderly and it is very well run. NZ could learn a lot about event management over here at these games!
