Banff is an amazing little town, but it is bloody cold...we even suggested to AH a wee trip down to Mexico or over to Hawaii for a bit of warmth would be a good idea. NO RESPONSE!
We skied up at Sunshine Village, where you catch a gondola for 20 mins from the carpark to the skifield base. A bit like what they want to do at Treble Cone. I wasn't that keen on the ride due to my unrealistic fear of heights and falling and anything moving in the sky. The girls and spud loved it!
The powder was amazing and you ski over 3 mountains...but the temp for the day was
-15 deg, I have never been so cold in my life. Jordan and I had to get handwarmers and were even about to buy balaclavas.
On returning to Banff after the days skiing we then headed up to the hot springs on the hill, where the temperature was a fantastic 40 deg, a much better temperature for mum!
Our trek back up the road to Lake Louise was unbelievable, what an amazing place. Unfortunately we did not ski there as the conditions were terrible and a temp of about
-20! A bit cold for us thinned skinned kiwis.
We breezed through Calgary; saw the Olympic Park where they held the Ski Jumping...I think Jordan has gone off that idea now. The bloody ramp started from about half way up the Skyline Hill, it was HUGE! The GPS was worth its weight in gold getting us around Calgary and back onto the highway in traffic. But just as we were singing it's praises, it had us going round in circles in Leftbridge and was actually trying to make us pull into Diary Queen.
With the prospect of crossing the Boarder and getting into Montana close to the ski fields we were very excited to see the Boarder, so you can imagine our disappointment when we not allowed to enter the USA due to some papers the car needed!!!!
