Everyone wished me a happy birthday bar the Sun. She decided to have an afternoon in front of the TV, while her close pal Mr Cumulonimbus donned his favourite black jacket and proceeded to accompany us all day! So by 1pm we did the only thing we could, I mean if the rain is pouring then it seems fitting that the rum should be pouring alongside a ice cold mixer of Canada Dry.
At 4.30 I was treated to a "happy birthday" Bastimentos style. The Jaguar, our landlord on the keys, his brother on vocals, Maya the boatman on Bongo drum and Francis with his guitar. A dual language rendition of "happy birthday" then developed into the local tune requiring our much slurred audienced input of " I donno wa de monkey won do". By the end of the song we found out exactly what it was that "de monkey won do" and quite frankly I don't blame him, I'm pretty sure you'd never find a monkey doing that, no matter how many kinds of fruit you threw his way!

After dinner Alessandra and I joined the rest of the "band" at the local bar. Salsa was danced, or at least the effort was there, I'm not too sure that the steps were ever actually produced from the rum fuelled limbs, cocktails drunk and laughter made. A memorable and very enjoyable way to start the final year of my twentys.
