Had a great nights sleep in a very cheap hotel, can't find anything wrong with it to be honest it was just in a busy town (bakersfield) but was perfect as a stop over, it even had a pool!!

We drove the scenic way to the coast west of LA the plan was to visit Santa Barbara and stay nearby. The drive took us through another park, very windy roads and hardly any cars. Having been spoilt by the recent parks it didn't seem that scenic either but was better than the highways. We ended up on route 101 which we really wish we'd had time to drive up to San Francisco on. It travels along the coast and you can see the Pacific Ocean from the highway much better than the dry flat boring route we took!!

We arrived in Santa Barbara and after driving past lots of pay car parks we drove up a hill and found a free one! Walked back down to the beach and had our first paddle in the ocean. Spent a couple of hours wandering around the beach and harbour before heading off to find our hotel for the night.

We had booked a room in Ventura checked into our room and found a great burger place next door freshly cooked. We then walked down to the beach and watched the waves for a while.

Walked back into town and bought some treats the lady in the supermarket gave us a discount :)

Had a quiet night in looking for somewhere to stay tomorrow - it's cheap will it be cheerful? Only one night then staying in luxury for two nights - I am justifying this as I want to go to LA but can't work out where's nice and where's not safety wise, so booked a swanky hotel for a couple of nights.
