Woke to lightning, thunder and rain, but decided to walk anyway, albeit a bit later than usual, and was quite glad I did. The maple trees of Old Wethersfield littered the streets with color. I had a nice talk with Jan before the three of us left for a beautiful country drive to an apple farm in South Glastonbury where we bought pears, tomatoes, basil, a fruit pie, and tried an apple donut (not much to my liking). Drove back home for soup for lunch, then took off to pick up their grandchild Luke (age 6) from school and watch him and his sister Millie (age 9) until their father Paul was able to get home from work. Jan fixed a basic dinner or BBQ chicken and pasta while I taught the kids how to play "movie". Paul talked a bit about work and the architect Henry Hobson Richardson, who designed both the New London Train Station and Trinity Church in Boston. I didn't recognize the name until later when I did some research and remembered he had also built the Marshall Field Warehouse in Chicago, which was torn down in 1932 but I was familiar with from art classes. It was quite dark by the time we drove home. We had a piece of pie and went to bed soon after.
