The trip took a total of 4 hours and the whole time i was fascinated at the white color of lukes skin. I took pictures of our hands, our feet, and our arms and our faces and each time couldn't believe the difference. I felt pretty good about myself, i must admit. Luke was upset that he looked sick, and started baking in the sun.
We arrived on one of the upper most north-western islands called Nacula (just in case u wanna track me on a map) and we were ushered by the Fijian ladies to our hut called a bure. It was absolutely adorable... wooden walls, lined with woven straw and a leafy roof. This are really typical in Fiji, so we've been staying in these type of things for the last few weeks. And so we began living in "Fiji Time"... basically lazing around all day. We would start off our days with breakfast, go tanning for a few hours on the beach, a swim, a session of frisbee, then lunch, then reading on the hammocks, possibly back to the beach.. hang out some more.. back to the hammocks,an evening swim (the water is discustingly warm ALL the time.. like 25-30 degrees.. so much for ever cooling off), a walk on the beach, watching the sun set, then off for dinner, and just chatting up the other backpackers.. Its been pretty much the same routine all along.. its perfect. Ive never felt so relaxed, so at ease.. its really great. And the people here are so friendly... they also all look the same.. The ladies have this fro.. like an african fro that u just want to stick a comb in. They usually wear a tropical flower behind their ear, and are always in a hawain style dress.
We hung out at our first place for 5 days, too lazy to make the trip to the next island. On our final day there, we went to Palm Sunday mass in the village near by. It was organized by the kids of the village, and it was probably one of the cutest and most beautiful masses ive ever been to. About 20 of them walked in, grinning ear to ear, and carrying palms and singing. And boy did they sing. It gave me goosebumps just listening.. The girls sang so high and the boys in different lower keys, and they were so in harmony, it was beyond amazing listening to them. And for the rest of the mass, we were entertained by the kids as they would punch eachother, stick palm leaves in eachothers ears, and try to find ways to entertain themselves.
