We caught our bus at Paracas, after being told off for not being there a full half-hour before the journey. Actually we were, but they were busy serving icecreams. Anyway, we weren�t as late as the bus, which turned up 45 minutes late.

This caused us a bit of a problem, as we had been told when we booked the tickets that we would be back in Lima for 6.15, and we had an onward ticket for 9.00. Now we learned that the ETA would be 7.00, and then the bus was late. Then when we arrived in Lima it was rush hour, which meant that we didn�t actually arrive until 8.00, and had to get back to our hostel to collect our rucksacks and back within half an hour to be back to check in for 8.30. In good traffic the trip from bus station to hostel takes 12 minutes, so in rush hour we weren�t hopeful.

At the hostel Quique opened the door. We said we had to catch a 9 pm bus, and within one minute he had our rucksacks by the front door, had hailed a cab, bargained a cheap price for us, and bundled us into it. We tried to thank him, but "just go" he called after us.
