We crossed the border from the US and were into Canada. As we drove into West Vancouver and the familiar streets around Winnie and Marks, it almost felt like we were coming home. We picked up Mark from their place and then a very excited Winnie from work and headed to the ferry to Vancouver Island. With the car loaded, we headed upstairs for some dinner and catch up chats. 1.5hours later we arrived and following Svetto and Tara (Mark and Winnies friends) in their monster truck, we spent the next 2.5hours driving the windy rainy road to Tofino. When I say "we spent"...I really should say "Phin spent" as we were intermittently sleeping and then giving him driving instructions and entertainment to keep him awake. He did an amazing job considering we had been up at 5.30am, flown for 3.5hrs, driven for 4hrs then another hr, a ferry ride for 1.5hrs followed by the difficult 2.5hr drive...we eventually arrived at 11.30 at night. After meeting more of their friends Josh, Steph and Dave and the short haired pointer, Gus, and the boxer, Bubba, it was time for bed.

Next morning Mark and his buddies went off for a surf...it was a beautiful sunny day but still only about 6degrees..crazy if you ask me.

The rest of us headed to the beach for a walk with the dogs. The dogs had been super excited all morning and were pumped for the beach. As soon as we got there...they were off. Next thing I knew..Phin was yelling at Winnie and I to join him, Tara and Steph...we ran over and Bubba was lying limp on the ground..no breath..no heartbeat. After the immediate panic, Phin picked him up and we all were running to the car. He was just a bag of bones as Phin was carrying him. We dont know whether it was the running action that meant gravity was vibrating his chest but as we got him to the car he started to barely breathe again. Tara unlocked his jaw and over the next few minutes he came back to life! What a relief! We jumped in the car and went in search of a vet. After much misguided information we eventually discovered the closest vet was 2hrs away! Bubba recovered amazingly and we all headed home to chill. The afternoon was spent going for walks and reading magazines followed by an amazing Fish Taco dinner, courtesy of Tara and an early night.
Next morning we had some breakfast and went to go to the beach...minus Bubba. Day 3 and we have a flat drivers tyre! Argh!! Together the boys changed the tyre and then we could get going. We wandered the beach in the chilly wind and light rain before going back to the house for a jacuzzi and lunch.
Time to hit the road and return to Vancouver. It was beautiful driving through the island in the day as we were surrounded by snow capped mountains, luscious forests and emerald streams.
Back in Vancouver and now we could relax..10 days in the same place...wohoo!!!
