I was mesmerized by the lines of fire swirling through the air, spinning around his body, leaving streaks in the night sky. I am forever amazed by the happy hippies spinning fire in Pai. It was my fifth time there in 7 months, safe to say that Pai is the place where I've gone to get away from it all. Pai is a utoPAI, and the best attribute of Pai is that it is ok to spend your day doing nothing at all. A long, hard, deep breath was what it was for me after scrambling to pack up my life once again and move, this time I'd store my stuff in Central Thailand and welcome myself back into modern society.

I sat in the airport waiting for my friend Monica to arrive, thinking to myself -I'm homeless. What had just happened to me: how had 7 months passed by so quickly? It is amazing how time flies and as my step mom once remarked how much I fly.

I had been in Bangkok twice before, once when I first arrived in Thailand last July and coincidentally the day the Thaksin regime was overthrown in the coup d'etat on September 19th. But, this time was different, I knew a different Thailand, I knew northern Thailand. Walking through the city today I had a slight taste of culture shock sweep over me - fancy retail shops, international cuisine, metro railway systems, air conditioning. I had to readjust my mind back to city life. I was speaking hill tribe language and in Bangkok they were speaking Thai.

Monica and I twisted our way like mice in a maze through the weekend market looking at art, buying jewelry and cooing at the poor puppies suffocating in the humid heat. Damn was Bangkok hot, I was longing for the night before when I was cold in the mountains sitting under a blanket and playing cards on the porch of my bamboo hut. There were definitely no huts in Bangkok, nor a need for blankets. Tonight we are crashing the Thai equivalent of Puff Daddy's home who happens to live conveniently next to the Princess of Thailand. Fancy that!

So, tomorrow we are off to the beach province of Krabi - I've been to the airport 3 times in less than 24 hours, it's a good thing I find airports fascinating, people reuniting and leaving, beginnings and endings...so thus is the true beginning of an adventure through Southeast Asia, I wonder how far I will venture and how I will fare.
