I took Dane to see where I called home when I lived in Mexico. We spent some time in colonial Puebla where I worked and in Cholula, a smaller town just outside of Puebla, where I lived. It was very exciting to see familiar places and to share them with him.
The church you see in the pictures that looks like it's sitting on the top of a hill...well, that hill is actually an ancient pyramid covered over with earth. It is the largest pyramid by volume in the world (not tallest but greatest in volume). I lived just down the street from it and could see it from from balcony. The Spanish built the church on top during colonial times. It's called the Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de los Remedios (Church of Our Lady of the Remedies) and is a major Catholic pilgrimage site. During religious holidays, I could see pilgrims staking up the path, their mass of candles forming a luminous snake curling up the hill.
