Rich: We left this morning to head back up toward Scotland for new years. Decided to go a bit of the way and have a look at some castles etc on the way. Sussed out some things to see in the midland and decided to stay in Derby.
First stop was Bolsover Castle, which looks stunning... if it's not foggy with 50m visibility. Turns out it's also closed. No idea why, the opening times only say 24th-26th Dec and 1st Jan. Gutted. Moved on to Castleton to see Peveril Castle and some caverns. Went on a nice 40min boat tour down a victorian lead mine. That was cool. Then went to the castle... guess what... it's closed too. No explanation. Not happy English Heritage!!
Oh yeah and pretty much all the snow is gone due to the rain/fog and +5deg temps.
