Sue and Rob arrived at our hotel about 9am. I did try to tell them the directions were.. go down the dodgy alleyway and give Bert the homeless dude his morning coffee on your way past, but that didn't fly.  We grabbed the bus from Journal Square (which was held up for quite a while at one stage by what appeared to be a police funeral) to Liberty Park and made the trek to the Ferry.  Me, kind of hobbling like a spethal person due to blisters all over my feet.
This memorial is near the entrance to the ferry terminal and has all the names of the deceased from 9/11.

On the pier (or wharf).  More lamps!  Sorry.

First stop, Ellis Island.  We took a recorded headset tour.  Sue loves this stuff so we guessed she’d be last out and yep, she was.  If you want an informative write up about it, you might need to visit Sue’s blog because I’m pretty cruddy at that sort of thing. All in all pretty interesting stuff about the early immigrants and what they had to go through to gain access to a new life.  And some didn’t, they were sent back.  Families split up etc.

While waiting for Sue I grabbed a cappuccino at the café.. And burnt my tongue.  So obviously I was drinking boiled horse piss instead.  How the hell do you burn your mouth on a cappuccino! I miss my little chocolate decorated fern and chocolate sprinkles.  Sorry US, but your coffee seriously sucks.  NZ kicks your freaken bum so far.

Back on the boat and off to Liberty Island.  Just as we are about to dock, my camera dies.

So I am afraid not much snapping from me.  Except a few I took off my phone.  Luckily Kathy took some for me too.  Mostly with our sheep mascot, Ba-azza.  I do notice he is becoming quite popular on FB.  Sarah is wondering where he is going to pop up next.  We didn’t stay long with Miss Liberty as we had a ticket with the 9/11 memorial at 6.30pm and time was getting on a bit.

We docked at Battery Park and.. Then ZOMG! ZOMG! SQUIRREL!  CUTE-CUTE-CUTE!

I'll start again.. We docked at Battery Park and checked out the 9/11 museum before going upstairs to grab a pizza.  OK, the pizza rocks in NJ and NY.  Maybe it’s my pinch of Italian coming out in me, but seriously good shit.  You can buy by the slice and they are huge.  One does me for dinner.  Had a quick look at Wall Street and then it was on into the 9/11 memorials.  Well, what can you say, pretty gut wrenching stuff.  Was interesting to see where they were in relation to other buildings.  And I like the memorials.  At least not just another kick-arse statue that there seems to be plenty of.   Rob took a pic of me at the South Tower memorial which happened to be the 'First Responders’.

So afterwards we walked around the block to their station.  They were actually getting ready to go out, although they didn’t seem in too much of a hurry.

We then said goodbye to Sue and Rob for the last time and took the train from the World Trade Center back to Journal Square.  So all in all a rather serious sort of day.  We leave New Jersey/New York for the capital!  Washington DC tomorrow.  Probably need some AC in our DC! For those about to rock!

New York/New Jersey
