Today we officially arrived in Costa Rica and already it has been a pretty fun adventure!

Yesterday was filled with last minute errands, packing, and trying to catch up on sleep after a late Thursday out at Readymix. Then, it was off to the airport where we met everyone for our flight, said our goodbyes to friends and family before we took off for Toronto. I was so tired so it didn't take long for me to completely pass out on the plane. Once in Toronto we headed to the airport Travelodge and ate dinner at Casey's with some delicious Tornado Potatoes. I got to briefly chat to my sis who gets to talk on the phone at her new job but it wasn't quite long enough (ps. Congrats Leah on getting onto the Argos cheer team!).

It was an early morning today. We got up, quickly packed and headed for the airport. The flight was again unadventurous. I napped then watch Quantum of Solace. The landing was a bit rough but we finally landed in San Jose. Customs was amazingly quick and my customs guy decided to test my Spanish (I think I passed!). We then got in our van to head to our amazingly beautiful hostel. All the girls are sharing a dorm room. I sleep in the creepy closet but get my own space.

We were all starving so we decided to head downtown to get food and explore. We first went to a large market where the group split up. Annie, Kate, Maddi and I went to a tiny restaurant in the middle of the market (basically the first one we saw). Our food was amazing and we all were able to speak to the waitress in Spanish. We told her that it was our first meal in Costa Rica and she was very excited, told her fellow waitress and they invited us to return soon. We then met up with Don, our faculty supervisor, and headed down the street by shops. It wasn't long before we ran into a giant dance party in the streets! Complete with smoke, DJs, dancers, musicians, lots of stages. We're all pretty sure it was a gay pride celebration. So fun! We headed through the crowd just to be able to say that we were part of the party then kept on down the street where we eventually found a craft market. So many temptations but we held off some how...

Then it was back to the hostel where everyone else had beat us. We then went to the grocery store and bought food for dinner and breakfast. My favourite items include mini bananas, a giant conjoined banana, mango and guava jam. Can't wait to eat them all for breakfast!

Tomorrow we separate into two groups. My group will be off to Monteverde and I'll get to meet my family! So excited (and nervous)!

Buenos noches!!
