I was obviously excited for a vacation week with the family - even if I had to travel 54 hours straight to meet them.  I was surprised by how many other travelers were sleeping at the airport.  Airports are luxurious travel though.  First off, it's heated and clean. And everyone is so polite and professional.  I will never again overlook the simple joys of proper toilets, toilet paper and hand soap after this trip.  The first day on the island I relied on adrenaline to stay awake and chat poolside with my parents all day, but since then I've been fighting to catch up on sleep.  Hotel construction and the casino are not helping my mission.  The week always goes too fast.

The island is alive with the buzz of the world cup - especially because the semi-finals this week include Holland.  Aruba is an entity within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and wearing a lot of orange to cheer on the Holland futbol club.  Our vacation timing was definitely enough to temporarily change my allegiance from the Americas.  Not everyone around here was born here - actually most of the hotel staff I've chatted with are from Columbia & Venezuela, which saved me from a spanish-free week, and provided Mom and I with an hour of spanish practice during our spa date.  Ive also been enjoying drinking water from the tap, soft fluffy towels after a HOT shower, fancy steak dinners, 4th of July fireworks!!, some old wardrobe friends, and reading all the mail Ive received since October. I feel so clean!

I feel a little out of sorts without my camera, as Andy is caring for it this week, but I am stealing my Dads against his will to capture the every move of the fearless iguanas.  Contrary to what my Dad will tell you, iguanas DO have teeth - so be careful when feeding and pestering them. :)

The island prices are a little overwhelming since I pay more for a coffee here than lunch in South America, but happy hour and the warm breeze can make you forget just about anything....even the looong bus ride ahead to meet Andy in Chile.  Hopefully I can get all the peanut butter my Mom brought me across the border.  Family: Thank you for treating me to such an excellent week & see you at Thanksgiving!!
