Where I stayed
Sweet Cinnamon
Rothitha drove us to Kandy and gave usa two day tour of the typical stops of the elephant orphanage (see prior entry), a spice garden tour, a gem shop in Kandy, the woodcarving place, a Kandian Dance performance and a walk through the famous Temple of the Tooth. Lots of tourist stuff but fun. I was particularly excited to see this city after reading "Not Quite Paradise; An American Sojourn in Sri Lanka" by Adele Barker.
We had a difficult time locating our hotel, a small B&B called Clove Garden. I'm sure it was not so much fun for Rothitha, but I enjoyed getting "lost" in the twisty turning mountain parts of the city. It is a place that takes a bit to get ones bearings. Would be a great place to live as an ex-pat. The weather here in the mountains is much more pleasant and I am looking forward to our return to this city after seeing the Cultural Triangle further north.
