Our last day for the Tony Couch Workshop, our last day at the Pilgrim House Inn, and our last day in Newport, RI. We tried to make the most of it.
Up at 6:00am. Grabbed bananas and hard boiled eggs.
We decided to take a walk in the neighborhood and take pictures of some unique homes, doors, and signs in the area. Time did not permit us to visit the "Mansions" of Newport - but hey, I can't imagine not returning to this beautiful town real soon.
Amazing what one can learn on a morning stroll! For example, we walked by an historical building, a church, called "Union Congregational Church" built in 1834 that was the "First Free Black Church in America"! Another, "Samuel Hopkins House, circa 1750; Rev. Hopkins was instrumental in outlawing the slave trade in 1774. Much history to be learned in Newport.
Workshop was good, the demonstration was on a "Vignette" - nice effect. The afternoon was short as Tony had to catch a plane back to Georgia.
Having a little more afternoon time on our hands, we took a drive around the perimeters of Newport and were awed on more than one occasion for the breath-taking views.
This drive took us the same great beach that began our journey - were we had a couple of hours to enjoy the sound of the waves and walk along the beach. We also gobbled up more of the delicious Lobster rolls - I will have to make those at home.
By 8:30pm, we went back to to the Pilgrim to change, proceeded to an outside patio at the wharf, where we shared a bottle of red wine, had great conversation and people watched. The air was nice and the atmosphere even better.
This was a special week!
