Derek arrived about 7:40 and he and dad packed the car.  I had packed the frozen food and cold food in two small coolers.  Derek had forgotten to get ice but I had ice packs for the frozen and enough cubes in the freezer for the other one.  We left right on time as planned at 8:00.  Derek drove and I rode in the back seat.

We stopped at Panera for breakfast, Larry had a french toast breakfast sandwich, Derek had an Asiago breakfast sandwich and I had a Pink Ribbon Bagel with cream cheese.  We got back on  71 and headed south through Columbus.  When we got to the split in Columbus we started to suspect that the ramp to 71 south was closed and it was.  We went north on 315 and turned around.  We stopped at a rest stop to "drink and drain" as I used to say when I taught grade school.

Our next stop was on 71 in Cincinnati where there was more construction and we had a half an hour delay before we got on the bridge.  We were about ten minutes into Kentucky when the traffic stopped again.  This time we looked at the map and got off at RT 25 which  parallels 75 south of Florence, KY.  We were on there for about half an hour and then got back on 75.  We stopped at Wendy's in Berea for lunch.  Everything went well until we got to Knoxville where there was another detour but this time it worked in our favor. It ended up saving us time in the long run. We got off the interstate and took 441 to Sevierville which took us off the main route to Gatlinburg. We stopped for gas. When we got to Sevierville the traffic got terrible, three lanes bumper to bumper all the way to our turn off where we stopped at Kroger to get OJ and beer.  During all this driving and sitting I started reading "The Help" which is the next book my book group is going to discuss.  It is appropriate reading for the south as it takes place in Mississippi in the 1960's.

We got here about 5:30, checked in, and drove up the mountain to Sunset Mountain Cabin.  The sun was starting to set as we unloaded.  The setting is spectacular and we can barely see other cabins.  Our back porch faces the sunset. While Larry and Derek watched the end of the OSU football game, I fixed Chowderwiches for supper:  a sandwich roll, a baked fish fillet, covered with clam chowder and corn topped with cheddar cheese.  We ate on the porch as we watched the sun go down.  The sun set before 7:00.  We came in as the mosquitos came out.

I cleaned up the kitchen, Derek turned on the fireplace, and then we skyped Erin.  There wasn't much to talk about and it was too dark to show her much of the cabin so we had a short conversation.  We read for a while and listened to Wide Spread Panic and Kathy Matea on the TV.  Then we went out to the hot tub right before bed.  We could see the stars through the trees overhead.  We read some more while listening to a CD called "Pure Pickin'" that Derek got from the library.  We went to bed about 11:30 and slept great.  The pictures are from this morning.
