I woke up at 6:30 and couldn't go back to sleep.  It was grey and very windy.  So I got up and looked out and saw a bird.  Oh, it's a black-bellied plover, I thought.  Then I got out my Hawaii Bird book and discovered it is a Pacific Golden Plover, a bird I have never seen before.  Wow!  A Life Bird my first morning.  I decided to unpack and have a shower and did a little more birdwatching.    Larry and Derek got up about 8:00.  Larry saw the plover too and we have seen it all day long.  We took our time getting ready to go to breakfast.  We decided to go to a place called Eggberts just down the road.  It was recommended by someone who wrote in the journal for the condo.  We also found a family in the journal from Grove City and Galena, Ohio.  Small world!

We got to Eggbert's about 10:00.  It was open air covered dining and we shared the space with a couple of pigeons who loved stealing food from the tables that weren't cleared yet.  Larry had a pancake sandwich with ham and cheese, Derek had pigs in a pancake blanket.  They had maple syrup and coconut syrup which Derek said tasted like cake icing. I had a ham and cheese omelet.  All of the food was good.

Our next stop was Costco!  We drove to Lihue, about 15 minutes to get there.  Right inside the door were snorkel equipment, beach towels, coolers, beach chairs etc.  There were lots of Hawaiian shirts.  We got a lot of food and more beer, an assortment of Kona beer.  Then we took all of the food back to the condo and headed to Safeway, across the street, for the things we couldn't get at Costco.  We have a lot of food and it should save us a bunch on eating out.

When we had stowed all the food in the kitchen we decided to go explore the resort.  We walked down to the pool which had a water slide, a sandy beach area, 2 sand bottomed whirlpools, one for adults and a winding river you can swim.  We walked out to the beach where it was really windy and the waves were really big.  We had seen kite surfers on our way to Costco.  There are high surf warnings out today so no swimming in the ocean.  We walked along the beach and all the way around the resort.  We saw the Oasis Bar between the pool and the beach, we walked through the lobby and saw the coy pond that is between the lobby and the pool.  We saw a couple of more birds.

When we got back we were all a little tired and decided to take it easy.  So I read some in the Ultimate Guidebook to Kauai.  Then I wrote some of this blog.  We decided to Skype with Erin but she wasn't online, so I called her and left a message.  She called back shortly and we skyped on Larry's ipad so we could show her the condo.  We reminded her of a couple of things to bring and told her we would be there to pick her up Tuesday night.

We continued to take it easy and just relax.  When we got hungry I put the deep dish pizza from Costco in the oven and made the salad.  When the pizza was ready we had our salad, also from Costco.  The salad was really good, we have it at home a lot.  The pizza was "to die for."  After supper we watched all the kids and people in the pool and continued to relax.  Larry and Derek went to bed about 8:30 and I went shortly after 9:00.
