For a while today, I wondered when I would get off to Miami.  The flight before mine was delayed and delayed and delayed.  Luckily, it got cancelled and mine took off only a little late.  Considering the weather that was not bad.  Larry drove me to the airport and I found the American desk to check my bags which took forever.  While talking to the mother and daughter behind me I found out they are going on the same cruise.  Then I found out that I taught Dottie's son, Brandon, at St. Charles.  What a small world.  They sat in the row behind me on the way to Miami.

Because of all the storms the pilot flew directly south and then east, but it was still a bumpy ride some of the way.  I read my book which helped pass the time.  We arrived in Miami half an hour late.  Erin arrived at 9:35 over an hour late.  That was just enough time for me to get on the Sky Train, collect my bag at carousel #27, and walk to the other end of the airport to carousel #6 before Erin called to say they were on the ground.  It took forever to get her bag, the carousel actually shut down twice before her bag finally came.  We walked out and got a taxi to our hotel, the Miami Beach Resort.

We arrived at the hotel at 10:30 and checked in which took a few minutes.  The hotel is Art Deco style and right on the beach.  We have a partial water view which of course we couldn't see.  We were starving and headed straight to the restaurant which closed at 11:00.  We ordered an order of sweet potato fries to share and we each got a dessert.  I got Creme Brule with mango and pineapple salsa and key lime cookies.  Erin had pumpkin bread french toast.  It was just enough without being too much right before bed.  I went to bed about midnight and Erin was still up when I went to sleep.

Peg Bishop, osf on

Linda, I called Larry to see if you were able to fly out yesterday. I was thrilled to know that all is well and that you and Erin are on your way out of this cold snowy weather. I did not realize that I was talking to Derik and asked what he planned to do with this "time out." Then Derik identified himself and I said now I know what the boys are up to. Hope the guys and gales of the Haas family all enjoy this week. Blessings, Peg
