Those few things can't possibly weigh 23kg!  We've had 2 attempts at packing so far and have managed to reduce the weight of our bags to just on the max limit, which just won't do... we have shopping to do.  I'm thinking, is underwear really necessary and can we survive 8 weeks on one pair of jeans each?

Come on Qantas, 23kg each is not enough for an overseas trip.  Back to the packing table for us again!

Trust me, you can certainly survive on one pair of jeans for your trip - we have for the last 16 weeks! I could have you packed with well under the 23 kgs, but still in NY...
Good luck with the packing. We only have 3 pairs of sox for our entire trip - you get used to washing in hotel rooms at night - undies & sox dry on heaters quickly so then you can take less!
