The flight was great - 14 hours passed so quickly, like time was suspended.  I sat next to a 4 year old boy and Dad (Indian-American) from Raleigh, NC; Mom and daughter were up front.  They had been bumped from their flight the night before due to weather and delays in Chicago.  The boy, Rohan and dad Sonni were very friendly, and after our flight together, they had me meet the wife's father here in New Delhi when we landed.

A plane full of Indian families (with TONS of kids who were perfect the whole flight - really!), happy Fulbrighters, and about 50 exchange students (including the student of one of my colleagues - how's that for small world?!) is as close to anarchy as I've ever seen on an airline.  It was crazy and happy and wonderful.  By 1 am Chicago time, it got very quiet and peaceful.  By 7 am Chicago time it was bustling again.  When we landed, everyone clapped.  I'm still in awe that we flew over the old Soviet Union and all the -stan countries - very cool.

The Taj Hotel is spectacular.  We were greeted with fruit drinks, leis and a ceremonial bindi on our foreheads with a blessing.  I got lucky and have the single room this stay - for 8 nights!  Pretty awesome.  Tomorrow (in about 9 hours - I'm so mixed up - we left in daylight, had night, then day, then night again when we landed) most of us are going to the Khan Market to shop for some clothes for the Fulbright reception at 5 pm.  I don't need anything, but I may buy a salwaar kameeze or two...

I guess I should go to bed - I'm exhausted and awake, but I promised Ron I won't send any more pictures of even fantastic hotel rooms!  :-)

I like this vicarious travel with you, Linda, and I am truly in awe with all that you have accomplished in the last few months - especially winding down the school year and reading volumes on India. Thanks for the trip. Lissa
